Omegon Camera veTEC 585 M Mono: compact cooled monochrome camera<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The monochrome veTEC 585 utilizes the most sensitive sensor of the compact veTEC models without a color matrix. With a quantum efficiency of approximately 90 percent and a read noise of about 0.8 electrons, this is a serious narrowband camera in a small format.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 11.1 by 6.3 mm sensor format fits well with short refractors and for those who want to learn how to work with channels on a limited budget.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sensor and sensitivity<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The monochrome Sony IMX585 has 3840 x 2160 pixels of 2.9 micrometers. The readout is performed at 12 bits, up to 47 frames per second at full resolution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The full well capacity is 40,000 electrons. In front of the sensor is an anti-reflective window, so you determine the transmission curve with your own filters.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Cooling and dark current<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

A cooled sensor is the difference between a usable and an unusable five-minute exposure. Thermoelectric cooling brings the sensor significantly below ambient temperature and keeps that value stable. The dark current thus drops to a level where faint nebula structures emerge above the noise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because you set the sensor temperature to a fixed value, dark frames remain usable over multiple nights. This saves calibration work each session.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Connect and back focus<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The camera has a T2 thread with a flange focal distance of 17.5 mm. The adapter sleeve turns it into a 2-inch connection with a 2-inch filter thread. Please take into account the space needed for a filter wheel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the loose 12.5 mm adapter, you reduce the flange distance, which provides space for a filter wheel or an off-axis guider in the optical train.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Rear USB hub<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

There are two additional USB ports on the back. You can connect a guiding camera or an electronic focuser to them, for example, so that only one cable runs to your computer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The hub works with USB 2.0. For the camera itself, you use a USB 3.0 port on the computer, otherwise the read speed will drop.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Software and method<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Control is via ASCOM or INDI, with which the camera cooperates with N.I.N.A., SharpCap, APT, and Siril. Omegon's free capture software can be downloaded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Note: the veTEC cameras do not have an ST4 port and are not intended as an autoguider. For guiding, combine the camera with a separate guiding camera, for example from the GUIDE or veLOX series.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
