If your measuring station, weather station or observatory still has equipment with a serial port, you will want a meter that connects directly to it. This Sky Quality Meter RS232 version from Unihedron measures the brightness of the night sky in magnitude per square arcsecond and transmits the values to the system it is connected to.

RS232 is mainly found in measuring stations, older computers and industrial systems. This makes it suitable for fixed installations, such as in Astronomers in the Netherlands who want to monitor that light pollution.

If your computer only has USB, you will need a cable from RS232 to USB. If the meter is going to be left outside permanently, place it in a weatherproof enclosure.

If you don't have RS232 equipment, then choose another option. the SQM-LU with USB connection or the SQM-LE with Ethernet.

Sky Quality Meter with serial RS232 port, for measuring stations, weather stations and observatory
