The TeleVue Ploessl 32mm has a field stop of 27mm, thus making full use of the 1.25-inch format. It is the lowest magnification that makes sense in this format; a longer focal length will not provide a larger field of view, only a larger exit pupil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With a 22 mm eye relief, this is also a remarkably comfortable eyepiece, even when wearing glasses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The TeleVue Ploessl design<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Four lenses in two groups are all a good Ploessl needs. Because there are few glass surfaces, transmission remains high and contrast is maximized: precisely the characteristics that matter for planetary and lunar observation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

TeleVue T-type optics brought the design to the current level in the seventies, with tight manufacturing tolerances, multiple coatings, and blackened lens edges. You can see the difference compared to a standard supplied eyepiece right at the edge of the field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The full field of 1.25 inches<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The same true field of view as the Panoptic 24 mm, but at a lower magnification and a lower price. Under a dark sky, that's a fair trade; under a bright sky, the Panoptic's higher magnification wins on contrast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Check the exit pupil: 32 divided by the f-ratio. At f\/5, that comes to 6.4 mm, just within what a dark-adapted eye utilizes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In your telescope<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

In a telescope with a focal length of 1200 mm, this eyepiece provides approximately 38x with a true field of view of about 1.29 degrees. For your own telescope: true field of view = 57.3 x field stop divided by the telescope's focal length.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The effective field stop of this model is 27.0 mm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Featured accessories<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

A TeleVue 2x or 3x Barlow lens doubles or triples the magnification of any Ploessl eyepiece without any loss of quality; two Ploessl eyepieces plus a Barlow lens thus cover four magnification levels. Models 25 mm and larger also accept the Dioptrx astigmatism corrector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
